Programmes

Music by Ludwig van Beethoven and Robert Schumann

With the character of young Werther, Goethe secured himself an enduring place in world literature. His epistolary novel of unrequited love reaching a tragic end struck a nerve in its time and has captured the imaginations of generations of readers since. Goethe’s work has also inspired numerous composers, also including Beethoven. With songs by Beethoven and Schumann, the Friedrich Lux String Quartet and Florian Resetarits take us on an evening-long journey through «The Sorrows of Young Werther» whose emotional highs and lows are vividly experienced in the interplay between words and music.
