In his chansons, Friedrich Cerha leaves the rarified atmosphere of high art behind to enter the more dangerous territory of smaller formats. Here, the composer finds allies in writers such as Ernst Jandl or Gerhard Rühm, who have made telling contributions to the genre of the horrifyingly banal. Agnes Heginger's performance marks the first time that these chansons are interpreted by a woman and by a jazz singer, who lures concert audiences into the world of nightclubs and variety shows. Small in scale but with a big impact.
