Welcome to the countryside, the world of the musical pastoral, to forests of chords and rivers of notes. Once again the Beethoven student and admirer Ferdinand Ries is the focus of a Tonkunstler programme. The rural idyll painted by his Third Piano Concerto is brought to life by Dorothy Khadem-Missagh, a pianist from Baden in Lower Austria. The pastoral mood continues in a fantasy by the Romanian composer George Enescu, who created a scenario of modern rural life at the fin de siècle. Finally we hear Ludwig van Beethoven’s mighty, nature-evoking Sixth Symphony – the most famous classical «Pastorale».
