Marlene Dietrich, the Comedian Harmonists and Lotte Lenya made the songs of Robert Stolz, Werner Heymann and Carl Millöcker worldwide hits: erotic escapades, champagne and flirtation, and a strong dose of melancholy. The soprano Angela Denoke breathes new life into the great songs of the 30s and 40s, from «Speak Low» to «Frag nicht warum», and performs works by Friedrich Hollaender («Falling in Love Again (I can’t help it)») and Kurt Weill («September Song») – stars of the Weimar Republic and inventors of the Hollywood sound. In the Prelude, Maria Bill and Krzysztof Dobrek set the evening’s mood with songs by Kurt Weill.
