Franz Lehár
«Die lustige Witwe» Operetta in three acts, text version by Christoph Wagner-Trenkwitz

Aren’t we all a little like Count Danilo, searching for a distraction from patriotic duty, off ice life and the daily grind? With his «Merry Widow», Franz Lehár created a masterpiece: an operetta like champagne with smash hits such as the «Vilja Song», «Lips are Silent» and «You’ll find me at Maxim’s». Yet social critique lurks beneath the high spirits – this is what interests opera expert Christoph Wagner-Trenkwitz, who has written new spoken texts. Daniela Fally, Dorothea Röschmann, Peter Sonn, Daniel Schmutzhard and Burgtheater actor Michael Maertens give a concert performance of the story of the pleasure-loving Danilo and the cast of determined women around him, and bring the glamour of Maxim’s to the Wolkenturm.
