George Gershwin and Duke Ellington both combined European classical music with jazz in tonight’s works. Two men who crossed boundaries, and in whose rhythmic footsteps the Tonkunstler Orchestra, joined by French pianist Shani Diluka and Texan conductor John Axelrod, now follow.
