Everyone knows his name: Cornelius Obonya is as respected as a thespian in the Wiener Burgtheater as he is as «Everyman» in the eponymous Hugo von Hofmannstal play that is a perennial favourite at the Salzburg Festival, and in his roles as a film and television actor. In May 2014 he could be heard with the Tonkunstler in a concertante performance of the lyric drama «Pelléas et Mélisande» by Claude Debussy. Georg Breinschmid knows the orchestra even better: after his training in classical double bass he played with the Tonkunstler for two years. Today, says the notoriously curious jazzer, composer and boundary-pusher, «I make a living from the very thing I never studied». And how does that all fit together? Wait and see! What’s sure is that the event promises a completely new mix of text and music, a fullly individual creation whose outcome will remain open until the last minute – and that, famously, is precisely the charm of the «Plugged-In» concerts with the Tonkunstler. Whatever the result, the right relationship between solo and collective, as with so much in life, is a question of balance: «Alone Together».
