«Tod und Verklärung» Tone poem op. 24

A concert programme that makes the hearts of lovers of dramatic romanticist orchestral music beat faster! «Les Préludes» by Franz Liszt as well as «Don Juan» and «Tod und Verklärung» by Richard Strauss are three symphonic poems that are considered precursors of programme music and, as such, are milestones in the history of the genre. The Tonkunstler are up for the challenge together with Jun Märkl, who has been a frequent and much-liked Guest Conductor of the orchestra for many years. The performance of the so-called Paganini Variations by Sergei Rachmaninov is particularly worth looking forward to: the highly virtuoso solo part is sure to trigger Japanese jazz pianist Makoto Ozone’s imagination and make him improvise – surprises guaranteed.
