Most composers could only dream of their music having such an effect – or perhaps they’d rather not? The premiere of Igor Stravinsky’s ballet «Le Sacre du Printemps» in Paris in 1913 ended with a regular scandal. To this day, this key 20th century masterpiece is considered one of the most complex and demanding orchestral compositions – but a challenge that the Tonkunstler Orchestra and Krzysztof Urbański face with particular relish! Max Bruch’s First Violin Concerto was, by contrast, a great success right from the start. The solo part is taken care of by the globally celebrated virtuoso Emmanuel Tjeknavorian.
The new rules on Covid-19 prevention have made some changes necessary to our concert programmes. Unfortunately we have had to cancel the work originally programmed for the opening of this concert, the Overture to Goethe’s tragedy «Egmont» by Ludwig van Beethoven.
