Music as the spiritual barometer of a city: Sascha Goetzel, who celebrated a great success at the Wolkenturm in 2020 with Piotr Beczała, has curated a programme for his reunion with the Tonkunstler Orchestra that captures the shifting moods of Vienna. It gives pride of place not just to the great symphonic gestures of Schubert, Brahms and Korngold but also to the snappy punchlines of earthy Viennese popular song. Participating as soloist, the young Austrian baritone Rafael Fingerlos lends atmospheric expression to the subtle shadings.
