Irish Folk Symphonic

The music of the «Emerald Isle» is no small part of what makes the country’s magic. A melodic voice praising the beauty of Ireland in yearning tones, the raw sound of a fiddle, the mournful melodies of the bagpipes: What we now call «Irish folk» has a long history – it’s hard to believe that it has only really become popular in the last 100 years or so! The origins of Irish music go back around two millennia, to the time when the Celts brought their musical inspiration from Europe to the island. Today, people from all over the world enjoy the sound of Irish folk and are only too happy to be whisked away to a country full of fantastic landscapes with wild mountains, lonely beaches and countless sheep. Two luminaries of this music, who have long been indispensable for folk music lovers in Ireland, now perform with the Tonkunstler Orchestra for the first time: No one is more synonymous with modern Irish folk music than Dublin’s Daoirí Farrell, with his bright voice that he accompanies on the bouzouki, the Greek lute, capturing the always somewhat melancholy Irish folk mood. Mark Redmond’s virtuoso playing on the uilleann pipes fascinates the listener. The bellows of these Irish bagpipes are operated with the right elbow; the sound is soft and expressive.
