It was in June 2024 that Christian Arming made a fabulous success of standing in for the Tonkunstler – conducting, of all works, Gustav Mahler’s highly complex, transcendental Ninth. Now the Vienna-born conductor is returning and has selected a magnificent programme. He performs two dramatic, gripping and hymn-like works from the Bohemian-Moravian musical tradition: In «Šárka», the third part of his cycle «Má vlast» (My Fatherland), Bedřich Smetana narrates the bloody legend of a Czech Amazon. And in «Taras Bulba», Leoš Janáček describes the fate of the titular Ukrainian Cossack leader in a brutal battle of defence against the Poles. No doubt in a more welcoming mood, the audience again has a chance to experience Simone Lamsma, who shone as a soloist with Korngold in 2025 and now returns with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s virtuosic Violin Concerto.
