«The world’s most eccentric organist», «a flamboyant personality» and «organ punk» are some of the labels attached to Cameron Carpenter. Audiences love him, critics have called him a «do-gooder on the console». Born in Pennsylvania, he is a favourite with Viennese audiences, too. Now he will make his debut with the Tonkunstler in the Musikverein. After his great success at the Wiener Konzerthaus in October 2015 with Rachmaninov, Cameron Carpenter now immerses himself in the organ concerto by French composer Francis Poulenc. The performance of US-American composer Samuel Barber’s «Toccata Festiva» promises to be an outstanding listening experience as well, which Carpenter will also play on the Rieger organ (built in 2011) in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein. The performance of Jean Sibelius’s second symphony under the direction of Music Director Yutaka Sado is bound to be no less spectacular. The work is a colourful piece of intensive, late Romantic expressiveness that evokes a feeling of closeness to nature.
