With its residencies at the Vienna Musikverein, the Festspielhaus St. Pölten and at Grafenegg, the Tonkunstler Orchestra is one of Austria’s biggest and most important musical ambassadors.
Yutaka Sado is considered among the most renowned Japanese conductors of our time. With the start of the 15-16 concert season, he takes over from Andrés Orozco-Estrada as Music Director of the Tonkunstler Orchestra.
The Tonkunstler Orchestra was formed in Vienna in 1907. Alongside the classical repertoire it performed many contemporary works, giving the premiere of Schönberg’s “Gurre-lieder“. The orchestra’s history reflects the changing times it has lived through.
