Mozart’s Requiem, one of his most honoured and at the same time profound and sublime creations, is surrounded by legends – even today when the circumstances of its creation have long been clarified: Count Walsegg-Stuppach sent Mozart the lucrative, anonymous composition commission via the «grey messenger», intending to pass off the work as his own. It was only when Mozart fell gravely ill that the Requiem became famous as the incomplete swan song of its true creator. After two weeks confined to bed he died – leaving behind instructions for the completion of the work. At the very first Schlossklänge concert on Good Friday the Tonkunstler have secured the services of a star of historical performance, conductor Rinaldo Alessandrini. Together with the Arnold Schoenberg Choir and selected soloists, they will offer a foretaste of Easter morning with Bach’s earlier cantata «Christ lag in Todesbanden» («Christ lay by death enshrouded»).
