The already eminent reputation of young Lithuanian conductor Izabelė Jankauskaitė precedes her, and for her debut with the Tonkunstler Orchestra she has picked out a particularly scintillating programme. Before the street-musician-like festive mood in Robert Schumann’s thrilling «Spring Symphony», we begin with a wonderfully humble yet other-worldly plea for peace by Arvo Pärt: at once sorrow and solace. But between these, Matthias Schorn sends some soloistic sparks flying. He’s not just solo clarinettist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra but also successful in ventures including his band «Faltenradio» – and here makes Weber’s First Clarinet Concerto, a classic of the genre, shine.
