Prokofiev once more! After the Violin Concerto in g minor, which opened this year’s concert season, the Tonkunstler perform one of the Russian composer’s most popular works: his «Symphonie classique». High spirits and wit, irony and clarity, carefreeness and, yes, defiance against «the philistines»: Sergei Prokofiev united these attributes in his masterpiece in a unique manner. French virtuoso François Leleux, among the most sought-after oboists worldwide, will conduct the Tonkunstler. The oboe concerto attributed to Joseph Haydn promises witty entertainment and first-rate virtuosity on the part of the soloist. With Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s «little» Symphony in g minor, the Tonkunstler bring the magic of Viennese Classicism to the concert hall. Georges Bizet artfully turned Parisian charm into music in his pleasant first symphony, which concludes the programme.
