»Perhaps the most significant movie ever made«, said the New York Times about »The Great Dictator«. The breathtaking parody is Charlie Chaplin's first sound film and an appeal for peace and humanity. As with »City Lights« and »Modern Times«, the music was composed by Chaplin himself, whereby he worked out his musical ideas in collaboration with Meredith Wilson. Charlie Chaplin had no in-depth instrumental training or composition lessons, but he always knew exactly what he wanted, both cinematically and musically. His success proved him right: »The Great Dictator« was nominated for an Oscar in five categories in 1941 - including Best Original Score. When this prophetic classic is performed at the Wiener Konzerthaus, Chaplin specialist Timothy Brock will be conducting the Tonkunstler Orchestra.
