In ‘Sacre’, star choreographer Sasha Waltz explores the energies of the human body from urgent violence to quiet tenderness, unleashing the tremendous power of her living art once again to open the new season at the Festspielhaus. The artist begins her three-part programme in front of a gaudy pop-art set with the fast-paced ‘L’Aprèsmidi d’un faune’ to music by Claude Debussy. The captivating delicacy of the love duet ‘Scène d’amour’ from Waltz’s ballet ‘Roméo et Juliette’ evokes romantic fantasies, leaving behind an ebulliently euphoric aftertaste before the choreographer destroys any notion of innocence with the grand finale to Igor Stravinsky’s succès de scandale ‘Le Sacre du Printemps’ – which is performed live by the Tonkunstler Orchestra.
