What composer’s work ranges from a featherlight romantic comedy worthy of the Hollywood treatment to the symphonic portrait of a tragic «amour fou» that ends in a hallucinatory witches’ sabbath? It can only be Hector Berlioz; hardly any other conductor explored the extremes of the Romantic palette as impulsively and breathtakingly. Fabien Gabel, a compatriot of the composer and the director of the Orchestre symphonique de Québec, returns to the Tonkunstler Orchestra to focus on Berlioz, also joining the pianist Simon Trpčeski to interpret Franz Liszt’s lyrically dramatic A major Piano Concerto: a brilliant sonic firework display!
