A fiery spectacle, full of spirit and profound meaning: the Ballett am Rhein joins the Tonkunstler Orchestra to present a series of milestones of 20th century dance. In Rubies, George Balanchine, the founder of neoclassical ballet, interprets Stravinsky’s flamboyant capriccio – a firework of complex leaps and pointe work combined with the spirit of Broadway jazz dance. With Hans van Manen, everything is about ephemerality. In Visions Fugitives, he renewed ballet by focussing on classical dance to music by Sergey Prokofiev. William Forsythe completes the evening with Enemy in the Figure – a poem in dance, whose urgency and radical aesthetic has lost none of its modernity.
