When the great French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard plays the solo part in Bartók's Third Piano Concerto, or when the Tonkunstler Orchestra under Brad Lubman intones Debussy's «La Mer», at the Wolkenturm, the «Anticipations» by Composer in Residence Philippe Manoury will already have faded away. The new work by the French composer references the musical tradition of the two masterpieces and thus, in a sense, anticipates them to open the concert. The programme is complemented by Ligeti's legendary musical painting «Atmosphères», made famous by Stanley Kubrick's science fiction film «2001: A Space Odyssey».
