Programmes

Ocean spray and soaring flutes, spectacular fountains and gentle rippling: From earth-spanning oceans to tame, cool waters to delight in, H2O is at the centre of this concert conducted by Victorien Vanoosten. Water inspired Ottorino Respighi, for example, whose «Fontane di Roma» beautifully paints four Roman fountains in magnificent sound-images – with the Trevi Fountain at midday as a triumphant roaring climax. Or, of course, Claude Debussy in «La Mer», that great symphonic celebration of the ocean in the marriage of wind and waves. To go with it we offer the sparkling virtuosity of the brothers Artur and Lucas Jussen playing Béla Bartók: music to revive the soul.
